APCO is a family run independent chain of petrol and convenience stores started by Ron and Margaret Anderson in Warrnambool 50 years ago.

In 2013 the four sisters had an idea that APCO, could do more for the communities in which they lived and worked. They decided if they pooled the collective resources of the APCO chain and leveraged off the large network of suppliers and customers they could raise some much-needed money for all our communities.

All the retail partners were already supporting local sporting and community clubs, but it was felt we could do more if we banded together as a group so FUEL FOR A CAUSE began! We want to spread some kindness through our communities and often the people we help do not fall under anyone’s umbrella. Families with desperately ill children, families who have lost a parent, or a project within the community that will help others. The past 12 months have seen us donate to families who lost everything in the bushfires, to families touched by cancer and projects like Hope Bereavement, Geelong mums and Barwon Health. We have handed out over 800 care packs during covid-19 to help those who been impacted by the virus.

The APCO Foundation have donated over $750,000 back into the community over the past 7 years. The support of our local and corporate community is very important to us and without their valued support we could not help those in need and continue to spread kindness.

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, with a driving purpose to Nourish Our Country. Founded by Ronni Kahn in 2004, it began with a simple concept to rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to people in need.

Starting in Sydney with one van, OzHarvest now operates nationally and has delivered over 150 million meals and saved 50,000 tonnes of food from landfill.

Each week, OzHarvest rescues 250 tonnes of quality surplus food from more than 3,500 food donors including supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, hotels and food outlets. It then delivers the food directly to more than 1,500 charities that feed people in need – these people now have access to a wider supply and variety of fresh and cooked food.

Since the beginning of March 2020, OzHarvest began offering a number of emergency food relief programs including cooked meals, hamper hubs and mobile markets supporting bushfire affected areas.

We are proud to support The Smith Family – Australia’s leading children’s education charity, providing young Australians from disadvantaged backgrounds with the extra tools and support they need to succeed at school, so they can create better futures for themselves. For almost 100 years, The Smith Family has been tackling the problem, one child at a time. Through their flagship Learning for Life program, they are helping children overcome their circumstances by providing long-term support for their education in three distinct ways.

They provide financial support for school essentials, like uniforms and books. They provide access to additional learning programs before and after school – tailored to each child’s individual needs. And they match each child with a dedicated team member at The Smith Family to help them get to school, stay at school and go on to further training or work. This proven three-pronged approach is equipping these children with the motivation, resilience and life skills they need to complete their schooling and go on to better futures.

We are absolutely delighted to be joining forces with The Smith Family to help Australian children succeed in their education and realise their true potential.

Whitelion is a non-profit youth organisation with a vision for a world where ‘no young person is left behind’. Whitelion exists to address youth social isolation and unemployment by providing a number of programs that help build positive connections and pathways to work for young people at risk. In these programs, Whitelion youth workers help young people overcome barriers to realise their full potential by believing in themselves – their strengths, resilience and courage. Youth workers support young people by helping them re-engage in school; helping them become work-ready; placing them in jobs and helping them reconnect with family and culture. This enables them to build up confidence as young adults, who are motivated to make positive change.

Whitelion knows that when a young person has positive self-regard and is able to connect positively with others, they are more likely to re-engage with school or move towards work, and in turn contribute meaningfully to the community.

Every $2,500 raised will give young people access to vital support from a Whitelion youth worker for up to six months. Whitelion helps young people at risk with their immediate needs to ensure they are safe and stable, while maintaining our focus on their future. By helping them form positive connections and pathways to work we are providing them with the tools they need to thrive independently as adults and break cycles of disadvantage.
